Join us for a festival to celebrate the opening of our new exhibit, Rube Goldberg™: The World of Hilarious Invention!  We're taking over parts of the Museum where guest inventors, artists and activities will inspire your vision and put your problem-solving skills to the test.

Special guests include the Heirs of Rube Goldberg, led by Rube's granddaughter Jennifer George; Ed Steckley, artist and illustrator of the newest Rube children’s books; and performers slowdanger with Ru Emmons and David BernaboAttack Theatre, O'Ryan the O'MazingMissy Moreno, and Anna Azizzy.

Saturday, October 13

  • Become part of a human-powered machine that kicks off the opening weekend - 10:30 am in the Lobby

  • Challenge Building - Create a contraption only you can imagine - Noon in the Garage
  • Musical Contraption Building - Create an contraption insturment with local musicians Lee Robinson, Colin Pinto-Martin, and Kyle Murphy - 2:00 pm in the Garage

  • Family Speed Building - Compete against the clock to build a unique contraption - 11:00 am & 1:00 pm* in the Garage

  • Inventor Showcase with host Missy Moreno - Meet inventors, learn how they came up with their inventions and see what their work inspires you to build 10:45 am, 12:00 pm, 2:30 pm & 3:45 pm in MAKESHOP

  • The Art Studio is up in the air thanks to Professor Picasso!  Make tools to help them create aerial art - 10:00 am – 5:00 pm in the Studio

  • slowdangerRu Emmons, and David Bernabo create a series entitled ‘fragments’, an accumulative performance process where the group layers movement, sound, and mark making to build a textural landscape over the process of a day. - 11:00 am, Noon & 2:00 pm** in the Studio

  • Artist Talk and Book Signing - Artist Ed Steckley lets you in on his "creative process" to illustrate books, and signs his latest, Rube Goldberg's Simple, Normal, Humdrum School Day
    Talk: 11:30 am & 1:30 pm / Book Signing: Noon & 2:00 pm  (Books will be for sale in the Museum Store)

*Family Speed Building is for ages 8+. Sign up in the Little Orange Store beginning at 10:00 am on the day of the event. Limited spaces.
