F.I.N.E. Art Residency Workshop: The Art of Clowning

F.I.N.E. Artist Residency Event

10:00am
2:00pm
March 16, 2019

Come explore ideas of identity, culture, and humor through the art theatrical clowning with F.I.N.E. Artist, O'Ryan 'the O'Mazing' Arrowroot!

Clowns have always been a reflection of our culture, so what better way to get to know the world we live in than by being fools in it? This workshop, through a series of group games and activities, will unpack our thoughts and feelings about clowns and ourselves and find lots of laughter along the way.

Prop play, visual art, and character acting all come together in this O’Mazing workshop to give us an understanding of ourselves and the world we live in. Whether it is a balloon, a scarf, or a red nose, we take the tools of the common clown and explore their possibilities and their meaning to us. To be the fool, we must embrace and laugh at our differences, our commonalities, and the beautiful mistakes that make us human.

This free workshop is designed specifically for ages 8-10. Limited spaces. Registration required. All registrants should bring a brown bag lunch. Popcorn will be provided for snack. Please contact Zena Ruiz: zruiz@pittsburghkids.org with any concern for allergies.

O’Ryan “the O’Mazing” Arrowroot is a career clown and circus performer here in the Pittsburgh area. From stages and ballrooms, to orphanages and refugee camps, O’Ryan has been bringing the art of clowning to children of all ages and backgrounds for over a decade, and is constantly amazed by both the impact that clowns have on children, and the impact that children can have on a clown.

I became an artist because it was the only thing that made sense. I became a clown because nothing makes sense. - O'Ryan "the O'Mazing" Arrowroot
