Take this opportunity to focus on the best parts of virtual learning! Share your favorite platforms, activities, techniques, gadgets and more. Join the conversation and hear about what your peers are implementing in the virtual learning landscape. Take a tip, or leave one for your fellow educators.

Making: The Best of It

June 16-17, 2021

Join Museum professionals for a 2-day virtual workshop that immerses classroom teachers and informal educators in the philosophy and practice of making.

  • Engage in virtual workshops, designed to give both practical and theoretical insight into different forms of making.
  • Explore “nuts and bolts” of making through hands-on activities and discussions.
  • Receive tools and materials to support your learning experience.
  • Use MAKESHOP’s Principles of Practice and other research tools to delve deeply into the learning that happens through making.
  • Use visioning tools designed by the Museum’s Learning and Research department to inform institutional direction as it relates to making.

We recommend attending with another representative of your institution, be it a teacher, librarian or administrator, so you can support each other’s efforts and implementations beyond Making: The Best of It.

in-person professional development

pixar in a box

July 27 – 29, 2021
$900 per participant
Act 48 credit provided (24 hours)

Dive into a week-long professional development learning experience in the Pixar storytelling process. Designed by Pixar’s senior artists and computer scientists, Pixar in a Box (PIAB) allows you to become part of a creative storytelling team, creating digital storyboards while integrating important art and language skills.  You’ll engage with PIAB resources and resources created especially for educators as you learn how PIAB enhances core school-based content areas and techniques for integrating PIAB into your work with students.

Educators completing this workshop will receive official Pixar in a Box classroom certification and Act 48 credit.

Maker Educator Bootcamp

August 3-6, 2021
9:00 am – 3:00 pm EST
$900/participant
Act 48 credit provided

Join Museum professionals for a 4-day workshop that immerses classroom teachers and informal educators in the philosophy and practice of making. Developed through years of experience and research in the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s MAKESHOP, Boot Camp emphasizes that maker education is about more than a space and the right tools.

Participants will:

  • Work in individual and group settings for both hands-on activities and discussions
  • Attend four process-focused workshops, designed to give both practical and theoretical insight into different forms of making
  • Use both MAKESHOP’s Principles of Practice and other research tools to delve deeply into the learning that happens through making
  • Use visioning tools designed by the Museum’s Learning and Research department to inform institutional direction as it relates to making

 

We recommend attending with another representative of your institution, be it a teacher, librarian or administrator, so you can support each other’s efforts and implementations beyond Boot Camp.
