October 13 & 14, 2018
Join us for a festival to celebrate the opening of our new exhibit, Rube Goldberg™: The World of Hilarious Invention! We're taking over parts of the Museum where guest inventors, artists and activities will inspire your vision and put your problem-solving skills to the test.
Special guests include:
• The Heirs of Rube Goldberg, led by Rube's granddaughter Jennifer George, who will help you create contraptions of pure imagination!
• Ed Steckley, artist and illustrator of the newest Rube children’s books, who will give talks for kids about being an artist and take part in a book signing.
• Performers slowdanger with Ru Emmons and David Bernabo, Attack Theatre, O'Ryan the O'Mazing, Missy Moreno, and Anna Azizzy.
At the Inventor Showcase, you can be part of the studio audience where Missy Moreno introduces inventors such as Isaac Bower, BirdBrain Technologies, and AE Dreams introduce their innovations and talk about their paths to creation. Then see what their work inspires you to build out of recycled materials.
In the Studio:
World-renowned artist, Professor Picasso, has flipped the Art Studio upside down and needs your help in creating masterpieces. slowdanger will perform with Ru Emmons and David Bernabo creating a new work entitled 'fragments', an accumulative performance process where the group layers movement, sound, and mark making to build a textural landscape over the process fo a day. Join Attack Theatre for an interactive movement workshop through the assembly of “Movement Machines”. Paint up high or crouch down low, create a large draw-bot, ride a zip line while making marks on canvas, work on a GIANT painting or a tiny one too, it’s all up to you! Mess or less mess, you decide-just make sure you dress accordingly!
In the Garage:
Join the Heirs of Rube Goldberg for Speed Building challenges where you compete against the clock to build a unique contraption. Not feeling the need for speed? You can tackle Challenge Building and create your own contraption throughout the day.
Speed Building is for ages 8+. Sign up in the Little Orange Store beginning at 10:00 am on the day of the event.
