Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is looking for potters for two separate ceramics competitions. Deadline to apply is Thursday, April 2.

Competitions are held on:
Saturday, April 11

10:00 am – 4:00 pm

WHEEL THROWING COMPETITION
Potters have 30 minutes to create a piece using a potter’s wheel.


HAND BUILDING COMPETITION
Potters have one hour to hand build a piece.

rules

  • Contestants must have prior ceramics experience
  • Contestants must be ages 15 and older to participate

supplies

All contestants will receive the following supplies:*

  • Potter’s wheel – for wheel throwing competitors
  • Canvas covered table – for hand building competitors
  • 5 lbs clay (630 white stoneware)
  • Basic toolkit (needle tool, wooden rib, metal rib, wire cutter, wooden modeling tool, wire ribbon tool, wire loop tool, small sponge)
  • Water bucket
  • Large sponge
  • Towel
  • Heat gun
  • Newspaper
  • Transfer bat

*Potters are welcome to bring their own supplies but must use the clay provided.

Each competition will give out two prizes:

First Place:  $100
Runner Up:  $50

Prizes will be awarded on Sunday, April 12, at 3:00 pm.
