Children’s Museum Collections for the Community
Every Month in 2026
Every visitor who brings an item to donate for our monthly collection receives one free admission to apply to their visit that same day as part of Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s initiative to spread kindness this year. Limit one adult ticket per family. Cannot be combined with other discounts including group rates.
MAY COLLECTION
New /Gently Used Sports Equipment and Supplies for Outdoor Activities, including:
Outdoor footballs, basketballs, soccer balls
Baseballs and bats
Frisbees
Jump rope
Skates/Skateboards
Pool accessories (floaties, goggles, sandbox, pool noodles)
Indoor games, e.g. Uno
Water ballons/water guns
Hula hoops
Kites
Bubbles
Chalk
Face paint
Backpacks
Plastic water bottles
Collected in collaboration with Urban Impact that offers holistic community outreach through programs in education, athletics and the performing arts to change Pittsburgh’s North Side one person, one family, one block at a time.

The Year of Kindness builds on the Children’s Museum’s 25+ year history of collecting sweaters for those in need through the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive.

Jan 2026
Food drive for underserved communities across the region. In collaboration with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Feb 2026
Items for older adults in underserved communities across Allegheny County including puzzles, board games, books and art supplies. In collaboration with the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging.
March 2026
New children’s books. In collaboration with Reading is Fundamental Pittsburgh (RIF), a children’s literacy organization and on-site partner at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.
April 2026
Empty aluminum beverage cans. The Children’s Museum’s aluminum-can recycling efforts are in partnership with Ball Corporation. You can also bring in aluminum cans to recycle in the Cafe every day during open hours.
