Art & Making in September

Join us for a variety of drop-in activities in the Children’s Museum every day, all included with admission.
IN MAKESHOP:
Latch Hooking – Use a latch hook tool to tie short pieces of yarn onto a grid to create a design and add to a collaborative art piece.

Light Painting – “Paint” by moving light sources and reflective fabrics in front of a camera while taking a long-exposure photo. How are your motions captured by the camera?

Fabric Collage – Explore the properties of fabrics and create a unique fabric collage. Can you create different textures and 3D shapes?
Sept 24 – 30
Kinusaiga Fabric Collage – Try this Japanese art form which embeds fabric into foam for a quilt-like appearance

IN THE ART STUDIO:
Pottery Wheel Exploration – Try squishing, molding, and building with wet clay on a potter’s wheel

Natural Wood Carving – Shape wood collaboratively with simple tools as we explore how birds shape wood with their beaks
Sept 12 – 22
Woven Nests – Weave, wrap and tie sticks together into a bird-inspired nest while imagining what makes a home feel perfect for you.
Sept 12 – 30
Sgraffito Tile Carving – Use clay tools to carve and scratch away the surface of a tile to create the Italian style of ceramics called sgraffito.
Sept 17, 19, 24 & 26
Wood Block Printing – Carve a design into wood, then use ink to create your own hand-printed artwork.
