Family Pictures USA: Our Pittsburgh Family Album

February 12, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Add your family photos and story to the Pittsburgh Family Album!

We invite community members to bring in family photos and share their stories with the Family Pictures USA Institute for Inclusive Storytelling to help build a collective portrait of our amazing city.

Film a short video interview (15-30 minutes) and you could become part of a nationally televised documentary for PBS (think StoryCorps meets Antiques Roadshow).  Spots are limited!

Sign up for an interview here.

MuseumLab (right next door to the Children’s Museum)
Sunday, February 12
9:00 am – 5:00 pm

This free event will feature:

  • Video interview and portrait stations with the Family Pictures USA team
  • Digitization stations and technical support to preserve your family memories
  • Opportunities to connect and share your family’s story with neighbors from across Pittsburgh

The event is free and open to the public; Families are invited to explore our newest building, MuseumLab, after their interview.

About Family Pictures USA:
Family Pictures USA is a nationally broadcast PBS documentary-style series, which was broadcast to over 5.3 million viewers in 2019. It journeys through a rapidly changing landscape where the foundations of a familiar and idealized “AMERICA” are being transformed. Through sharing family photographs, ordinary Americans discover their hidden family histories, and meet unknown relatives and old family friends — introducing us to a more nuanced and diverse story of our common history, shared present and evolving future. Family Pictures USA mines this rich treasure trove of personal narratives and reveals roots, connections, and provocative parallels that surprise us and illuminate the path toward a new America for the 21st Century.
