Group Workshops


Children's Museum Group Workshops (Available September - May)

Experience some hands-on focused learning in a workshop led by a Museum Educator and two hours exploring the Children’s Museum. All of our workshops are designed to promote learning without even realizing it! Take your pick from our descriptions below.

Please note: Workshop prices are in addition to the Guided Field Trip rate.  Workshops are for groups of 25 or less. If your group has more than 25 students, multiple workshops can be scheduled. 

Electronics

$2.00 per participant 
Kindergarten - Adults 
Explore the basics of electronics and circuitry with motors and batteries.  Transform the purpose and possibilities of everyday items with circuitry. 

Drawing Machines

$2.00 per participant 
4th Grade - Adults
Use recycled materials and a simple circuit to create a robot that doodles an art masterpiece for you!

Five Senses

$2.00 per participant
Preschool - 1st Grade
Heighten your sense of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch with a variety of activities like mystery sound boxes, color mixing with aromatic paints, taste testing and more!

Printmaking

$2.00 per participant
Kindergarten - Adults
Experiment with an array of printmaking techniques or simply choose one to explore in depth.  Learn about positive and negative space through silkscreen printing or relief printing using unexpected materials and techniques.

Garden Exploration - varies by season 

$2.00 per participant
Preschool - Grade 2
Explore with a Museum facilitator to see what's happening in our ever-changing garden. Perhaps you'll sample a tasty treat, harvest some produce, or investigate the living organisms that make up the garden. Activities are dependent on season.

Mosaic Making 

$2.00 per participant
1st Grade - Adult
Use an assortment of colored tiles, bits, and pieces, to make your own unique mosaic design. Learn the terminology, history, and process of making mosaics.

Weaving 

$2.00 per participant
1st Grade - Adult
Take home your very own hand-held loom as well as your workshop weaving, and your new-found knowledge of weaving tips and techniques.

Portrait Drawing

$2.00 per participant
1st Grade - Adult
Come sharpen your pencils for portrait drawing! Whether you are a drawing beginner or advanced; learn new tips and tricks for drawing faces. Perhaps your inspiration will come from examples of some of the legendary artists, like Picasso, or Salvador Dali.

Puppets

$2.00 per participant
Preschool - Adults
Learn about the art of puppetry and explore the Museum's puppet collection.  Use the collection as inspiration while creating a unique puppet.

MuseumLab Workshops (Ages 10+ / Available September - May)

Explore the exciting exhibits at MuseumLab, our new museum for older kids adjacent to the Children's Museum, and participate in innovative workshops lead by a MuseumLab educator.

Makey Makey

$2.00 per participant 
5th grade - Adults
Computers are very good at doing the same thing over and over again, exactly the same way - but they need directions. Explore, play and create programming using apps like Scratch with MakeyMakey technology. Create your own interactive game or animation and add a custom made controller by connecting everyday objects using MakeyMakey.

e-Textiles

$2.00 per participant 
5th grade - Adults
Combine sewing AND electronics! Work with e-textiles, also known as soft circuits, in a focused field trip. Explore using conductive thread to move electricity through fabric.

Stop Motion Animation

$2.00 per participant 
5th grade - Adults
Experience storytelling by creating a short movie with stop-motion animation. Stop motion animation is a video made up of individual photographs, making small changes, one frame at a time.

Design Challenge

$2.00 per participant 
5th grade - Adults
Work with teams on a design challenge. Craft Rube Goldberg chain reactions, create the speediest zipline, or try different techniques to build a bridge.
