Breaking Ground to Revitalize North Side Park
Big Wheels & Pinwheels Spin!
PITTSBURGH, PA (August 23, 2011) -- A wall of bright orange pinwheels (ranging from 2-3’in diameter!) - created by Children’s Museum visitors and staffers will be attached tomorrow morning, 11:00 am - noon, to portions of the fence surrounding Allegheny Public Square. The decorations to the fence signify the beginning of the revitalization project of the square that will turn it into a vibrant green space for Pittsburgh's North Side next summer.
A trio of enormous construction vehicles - grazing like yellow dinosaurs – have been twirling, churning, and clearing concrete as part of the effort.
This community park sits at the former crossroads of Federal Street and Ohio Street in front of the Children’s Museum. Its revitalization is a collaborative effort among the Children's Museum, Pittsburgh city officials, community representatives, artists, architects and designers.
Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is located at 10 Children’s Way in Allegheny Square on Pittsburgh’s historic North Side, just a block from the National Aviary and 3 blocks from PNC Park. Museum hours are Monday – Saturday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday, noon – 5:00 pm. For general information, call (412) 322-5058 and visit www.pittsburghkids.org.
