Workshop for Ages 7-10: Cardboard Weaving

Early Learning Program

March 10, 2021

Discover the basics of weaving in this virtual workshop! Ever wondered how fabrics are made? Though most fabrics are now made by machine, they still use the same basic techniques that have been used for thousands of years.

In this live workshop, we’ll learn foundational techniques, and together we'll build cardboard looms and begin to experiment with weaving.

this workshop uses materials commonly found at home.

please have these items on hand:

  • cardboard*
  • scissors
  • masking tape
  • yarn (at least 2 colors)[ribbon, string and embroidery floss are all good substitutes]

*Pre-workshop PrepCutting cardboard can be a little tricky! Work together in an adult-child team to prepare  your cardboard in advance—see this video for a quick how-to. Stop when you have finished cutting the cardboard—don't worry about the yarn, we’ll do that part together!
