PITTSBURGH (July 17, 2016) - Power Racing Series teams racing mini Electric Race Cars, Drone Races, a portable wind turbine, Geodesic Domes, a musical tesla coil, sculpting with clay, Arduino controlled gizmos and gadgets, a Gatling gun that fires 180 rubber bands in 7 seconds, workshops in e-textiles, a cupcake cannon, 3D printing, robots destroying fax machines for recycling, clinics for educators and aspiring entrepreneurs … these are just some of the more than 100 proposals received  to date from Makers to  exhibit  at Maker Faire Pittsburgh, October 15-16, 2016 on Pittsburgh’s Northside.

Maker Faire is The Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth.  Makers come to show their creations while attendees glimpse  the future and find the inspiration to become Makers themselves, .” says Kayce Dewey, Maker Faire Pittsburgh Director, It’s taking the world by storm and  exciting to see Pittsburgh be a part of this movement.”

“I personally feel one of the greatest things about the maker movement is that it shows the average person you don’t need to read a huge text book to learn a new skill and make amazing and useful things,” says Chad Elish, HackPGH President. “It instills confidence in them and shows that it’s OK to get your hands dirty and make mistakes.”

Individuals, groups, schools, clubs, organizations and businesses are invited to apply to demonstrate what they make and share what they have learned with other makers and with the community. There is no fee to participate for non-commercial makers. Individuals who wish to promote or sell a product or service along with demonstrating what they make are charged a nominal fee. Start-ups and established businesses are welcomed as sponsors.

Maker Faire Pittsburgh’s Call for Makers final deadline is August  15, 2016.

What is Maker Faire?

Called the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth, Maker Faire is part county fair, part science fair, and part something entirely new. As a celebration of the Maker Movement, it’s an all-ages showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Maker Faire gathers together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, food artisans, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, artists, students, and entrepreneurs.

The original Maker Faire was held in San Mateo, CA, in 2006. As evidence of the growing maker movement,” there are now more than 100 community-based, independently produced Maker Faires taking place around the globe.
